Dr. Robert Steadward is one of Canada’s most accomplished and decorated citizens. He is a pioneering leader, award-winning teacher, sport scientist, and consultant. Among his many volunteer capacities, he is the Honorary Life Member of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), whom he served as the Founding President. He served as a Member of the International Olympic Committee and is an Honorary Life Member of the Canadian Olympic Committee and past President of the Canadian Paralympic Committee. He was also the Creator and Founder of The Steadward Centre at the University of Alberta, a world-renowned sport, fitness, and research facility which provides unparalleled programs for children and adults living with a disability. He was also involved in creating NAFAPA.     

 

He was a member of the 1978 Commonwealth Games Organizing Committee, Vice-President of the 1983 World University Games, Founder and Co-Chairman of the Edmonton Bid Committee for the 2001 World Championships in Athletics, Executive Board member for the 2005 World Masters Games, and Board member of the Vancouver/Whistler bid committee to host the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games just to name a few.
