Submission by: Andrii Vilenskyi and the team at Superhumans Center
When full-scale war reached the heart of Ukraine in 2022, it not only disrupted cities and
homes but also deeply fractured the country’s healthcare system. Faced with an
overwhelming number of trauma cases, Ukraine needed a revolutionary response. That
response came in the form of the Superhumans Center, a beacon of hope and
innovation for individuals who have lost limbs due to combat injuries.
At the ISAPA 2025 conference, with support from the INGENIUM University Alliance,
Ukraine’s Superhumans Center will share its groundbreaking work through the
presentation titled: "Experience of Superhumans Center in Rehabilitation and
Prosthetics for Patients with Limb Amputations Due to Combat Injuries" which
will be delivered at 5 PM on Monday 16th , in Plenary Room 1.
A New Model for Rehabilitation in the Wake of War
Born from the urgent need to support Ukraine’s wounded warriors, Superhumans Center
has emerged as a world-class hub for prosthetics, physical and psychological
rehabilitation, reconstructive surgery, and hearing restoration. Their holistic approach
ensures that trauma recovery extends beyond the physical addressing the full spectrum
of patient needs from body to mind.

One of the most striking elements of their work is the complexity of the cases they
treat. Combat injuries often result in polytrauma and high-level amputations, including
multi-limb loss and ultra-short residual limbs—conditions that require not only
technical expertise but creativity and resilience. About 16% of their patients present
with multi-limb amputations, and 62% are young adults aged 18–40, demanding
functional and dynamic prosthetic solutions to support active, independent lives.
The Power of a Multidisciplinary Team

Superhumans is more than a clinic—it’s a community. The success of their approach lies
in their multidisciplinary team, which includes:
PRM doctors
Physical and occupational therapists
Prosthetists
Psychologists
Social workers
Together, this team crafts individualised treatment plans based on each patient’s
injuries, life goals, and psychological readiness. The emphasis is on reintegration, not
just rehabilitation, ensuring patients can return to their communities with dignity and
capability.
Real Results, Real Impact
Since opening its doors in April 2023, the Superhumans Center has:
Fitted over 1,000 prosthetic devices
Discharged 800+ patients through comprehensive rehabilitation
These numbers are not just metrics—they represent lives transformed, futures reclaimed,
and a nation’s determination to rise from devastation with strength and innovation.
Rights-Based and Forward-Thinking
In alignment with global frameworks and ISAPA2025 themes, Superhumans' work
advances several key human rights and development goals:
CRPD Article 26: Habilitation and rehabilitation
CRPD Article 11: Situations of risk and humanitarian emergencies
CRPD Article 8: Awareness-raising
Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good health and well-being
The centre’s patient-first philosophy champions not only medical excellence but also
advocacy, awareness, and long-term resilience.
