Hosted at Munster Technological University, this symposium explores innovative solutions and holistic approaches to mental health care, aligning with Ireland's ‘Sharing the Vision’ policy.

The symposium will delve into Ireland's roadmap for mental health, emphasizing a continuum of care that places individuals at the center. This approach spans mental health promotion and prevention to early intervention and specialist services. Integrating physical activity, nutrition, and digital technology will be key themes, showcasing how these elements can contribute to a more sustainable and rights-based mental health care system.


Keynote Speakers


Professor Ahmed Hankir, a renowned consultant psychiatrist, has worked in global and Muslim mental health. He is a passionate advocate for lifestyle interventions, such as regular physical activity and a balanced diet, to protect mental health. His accolades include the 2022 WHO Director-General Award for Global Health.


Dr. Karen O’Connor, the National Clinical Lead for Early Intervention in Psychosis, will discuss the transformative potential of early intervention and complementary therapies in mental health treatment. Her insights are backed by extensive research and clinical experience.


Aoife Ní Mhuirí, CEO and Founder of Salaso Health Solutions, is a pioneer in integrating digital technology into healthcare. Her work demonstrates how digital solutions can enhance mental health services, making them more accessible and effective.


Special Olympics & Mental Health Ireland and Safe Food Ireland will discuss how they co-created resources to support those with intellectual disabilility promote and protect their mental health and well-being.


Engaging Discussions and Panels


The symposium will feature a panel discussion on Integrating Sustainable Development & Human Rights in Mental Health, moderated by Catherine Carty, UNESCO Chair Manager at MTU. Esteemed panelists include David Donoghue, former Ambassador of Ireland to the UN, and Dr. Niall Muldoon, Ombudsman for Children. This discussion will explore how sustainable development goals intersect with mental health care.

  • Registration Fee: The fee covers operational costs and provides bursaries for delegates from low- and middle-income countries.

  • Gala Dinner: An evening event at the Ballygarry Estate Hotel and Spa, where attendees are encouraged to wear evening attire or national costumes.
